About Us

The story and editorial mission behind The Diggin Dave.

Built for curious coin collectors

The Diggin Dave helps everyday collectors recognize real U.S. coins, understand mint marks and varieties, and research condition responsibly. This research center extends that mission with accessible tools, reference profiles, and practical inspection guidance.

Our research mission

We explain numismatic concepts in plain language and give readers a disciplined starting point for independent research and better questions for professional graders, dealers, and experienced collectors.

Editorial standards

Entries are limited to real U.S. issues and recognized varieties. Dates, mint marks, recorded mintages, historical context, and grade terminology are reviewed against established numismatic references; estimates are labeled, dated snapshots and are corrected when better evidence becomes available. Promotional relationships do not determine editorial conclusions.

How our values work

  • Every value on this site is a researched collector estimate band for that exact date, mint mark, variety, and grade tier.
  • Figures are cross-checked against recent auction results, dealer guides, and established price references, and a band only publishes where research supports it.
  • Unknown or unverified figures display "—" rather than a guess — and a date/mint combination that was never struck never appears in the guide.
  • The full method, sources, and review process are on the Methodology page.
