Value and Data Methodology

How catalog estimates are reviewed and corrected.

Verified-data rule

A mintage or estimated value is published only when a reliable check supports that exact issue and grade tier. If the available evidence does not support a requested tier or mintage, the site shows “—” rather than extrapolating a figure.

Why values are ranges

Coins in the same numerical grade can differ because of strike, color, luster, eye appeal, surface problems, designation, and exact variety. Figures are therefore presented as broad $+ ranges rather than false single-point precision.

Sources

Figures are cross-checked against recent auction results, dealer guides, and established price references. A range only publishes where research supports it. Completed-auction evidence is used; active listings are not treated as completed results.

Review and update process

  1. Confirm the date, mint mark, denomination, variety, and grade basis.
  2. Cross-check the issue against reliable numismatic records.
  3. Use dated guides or completed-auction evidence; active listings are not treated as completed results.
  4. Publish a range only for supported grade tiers.
  5. Recheck entries when reliable evidence changes or a reader submits a correction.

Graphs and auction records

A coin trend appears only from stored, verified checks for the same issue and grade basis. Until enough verified points exist, the site shows a clear trend-building message instead of drawing a speculative line.

Values are estimates, not financial advice

Every dollar figure on this site is a researched collector estimate for the stated date, mint mark, variety, and grade — not a price, a promise, or financial advice. Actual worth varies with condition, demand, and the market on the day a coin changes hands. Get a professional opinion before buying or selling.

Corrections

Every coin profile includes a “Report an error” link. A correction request should name the issue, disputed field, and supporting reference; submitted evidence is reviewed before an entry changes.
